Safety is a virtuous business value which must be applied to promote continuous improvement in working environment to minimize the gap between the publicized company principles and real practice of a business entity, oppose misuse of safety devices, implement appropriate safety devices, instrumentation, and environmental laws to their intended spirits with a view to eliminating accidents to justify a line of business, a specific production or an existing practice for the greater goodness of the society and sustainability of the planet earth. RESUME

Dilip K. Das, P.E., FAIChE, is a specialist in DIERS (Design Institute for Emergency Relief Systems) technology with over 50 years of experience in process design and process safety. He is an achiever, creative, team player, customer-oriented, chemical engineer, with technical success in diversified fields of process design, heat and material balance, simulation (CHEMCAD, ASPEN, and SuperChemsTM), energy management, project engineering involving P&ID, HAZOP, PSM, ASME/NFPA/API/TEMA/DIERS, and production engineering.Also serve as the lead investigator in the analysis of accidents in projects led by the Chemical Safety Board (CSB).

 

He is the co-author of three books on preparation for FE and PE in Chemical Engineering, a contributing author in Symposium on Runaway Reactions and the second edition of Guidelines for Pressure Relief and Effluent Handling Systems.  His latest book is Emergency Pressure Relief System Design is published by AIChE/Wiley. He is the author of numerous technical articles. He holds a US patent on fail-safe dip-tube. Using his patented dip-tube, you can feed a fluid into a vessel without risking the contents of the downstream vessel coming back into the feed vessel.

He has double Honors in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering respectively having placed first in both and earning gold medals for excellence in Chemical Engineering. He earned an MSChE from University of Washington and a certificate in Expert System in Process Engineering from MIT.

He is a Fellow of AIChE and currently holds PE registrations in MO & TX. He took his first PE test in NY, and as he moved to NJ, LA, MO, his PE registration was acknowledged through reciprocity.

This is a world class Consulting Company involved in Emergency Relief System Relief System Design, dynamic simulation using SuperChems, various risk analyses, PHA, accident investigation, etc.

I work as a part-time consultant for the company directly for their clients or helping ioMosaic colleagues. I also present Technical Talk through virtual meetings and attend DIERS meetings on behalf of the company. I am registered as a PE in TX and MO.

Bayer CropScience, Kansas City, MO (1997-2016)

The U.S. subsidiary of Bayer AG , Leverkusen, Germany, with total NAFTA sales over $1.2 billion and business units in the Crop Protection, Garden and Professional Care, and Animal Health markets.

Principal Engineer/Pressure Safety Specialist (2001-2016), Pressure Safety Specialist (1997-2000)

Relief system design using DIERS (Design Institute of Emergency Relief System) technology using such experimental apparatus as VSP (Vent Sizing Package), ARSST (Reactive System Screening Tools), and ARC (Accelerating Rate Calorimeter), and software like SuperChemsTM, CHEMCADTM, Process modeling, energy optimization and design of specialty equipment such as the falling film evaporator. Supervise the work of one senior engineer and a chemist.

Improved the ERS (Emergency Relief System) design capability of the department to the world class level by procuring SuperChems, Code-ware, VSP, ARSST, NETZSCH VariPhi ARC

Made a number of contributions to improve the in-house ERS (Emergency Relief System) program: Developed design method of controlling surface temperature of equipment exposed to external fire using sprinkler water, developed the method of identification of vessel flow model and flow regime characterization, calculation of pressure drop and flooding in packed column, correction of relief valve inlet line pressure drop, and improvement of SuperChemsTM

SOCIAL BACKGROUND

Born in undivided India and brought up in East Pakistan and India, Dilip Das is a first generation American along with his wife, Mala, with Indian ancestry. Their children, Shamik and Alina, were born and brought up in Spring Valley,NY, USA. Shamik is an Eagle Scout and State-champion in violin and Mathematics, and holds four degrees from MIT including a PhD in EE (Three-dimensional chips). He was the state champion in music and one of the 50 top junior scientists in the nation picked by the Center for Excellence in Education (CEE). He is currently the Division Chief Engineer at MITER at McLean, VA, and is internationally recognized as a nano-chip scientist. He is married with Anne, a Wellesley undergraduate in liberal arts and an ex-editor in profession with European ancestry. They have a son Caleb and a daughter Evelyn. Alina is a Girl Scout, and was Junior Miss and Miss Teen of Louisiana. She is a Harvard undergraduate, and received Law (JD) and MA degrees from New York University Law School. Alina has two daughters named Isha and Naya. Alina is an authority in Immigration Law, and now serves as Tenured Professor of Clinical Law in New York University Law School, and frequently appears in MSNBC. Her book, “NO JUSTICE IN THE SHADOWS: HOW AMERICA CRIMINALIZES IMMIGRANTS”, earned national acclaims and drew attention of President Joe Biden.President Biden pardoned Ravi Ragbir of Brooklyn, NY, on January 19, 2025, his final full day in office. Ragbir is a long-time client of Alina who defended him through the fully funded Immigration Clinic of New York University Law School.
